Indonesian maternal and neonatal death rate still hovered in the air undeterred by government’s supression attempts. In 2012, Indonesian Health Demography Survey (SDKI) noted maternal death rate (AKI) at 359 per 100.000 livebirths, while neonatal death rate (AKB) stayed at 32 per 1.000 livebirths. Among the chief causes were suboptimal delivery services. Endang L Achadi, a professor in Faculty of Medicine University of Indonesia, stated that mothers are highly vulnerable to death during delivery until 24 hours postpartum.
