Yonsei BioMedical Research Institute

After the new establishment of a high-tech research facility, Avison BioMedical Research Center(ABMRC), in February 2013, the Yonsei BioMedical Research Institute was also newly founded aiming to manage both ABMRC and medical research center in order to increase research efficiency and establish a strong framework for further development of medical research in the future. ABMRC, which is rated as a world-class facility, has been placed at the core of the research infrastructure of Severance Hospital and includes animal laboratories, an electron microscopy room and an imaging center. The research teams for Cell Biology, Membrane Biology, Infection and Immunology, Circulation, Metabolism, Aging, Stem Cell, Cancer Biology / Genomic Medicine, and Neuroscience have moved in and related research in the field is being conducted. Currently, 22 research teams and 4 centers are moved in and joint research of four industries/fusion laboratories are being conducted as well. By moving in as a team of basic/clinical/industries, it is also contributing to build an international academic-industrial network for medical research.

Cell Therapy Center

As the first local hospital equipped with GMP facilities, Severance Hospital has accumulated various research technology. In particular, Severance Hospital is experienced not only in stem cell transplantation and umbilical cord blood transplantation but also cell transplantation from heart disease patients.

Medical Technology and Quality Evaluation Center

This center is aimed to find profitable business through medical safety assessment for the impacts of such medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment, medicines and medical materials on the human body. The research for quality assessment, production and using testing is currently being conducted here.

In order to provide the highest level of protection for research subjects who participate in clinical research and clinical care centers, clinical research conducted in the Severance Hospital has a mission to inculcate ethical values in the research community.

Clinical Trials Center for Medical devices

Designated as a clinical trials center for medical devices by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in November 2008, the department has been in charge of overall related items from testing inspection for medical equipment to clinical trials.
