Overview
Severance Hospital has played a leading role in the medical circle as one of the best hospitals in Korea since its founding as the nation's first western style hospital in 1885. After the inauguration of the Yonsei University Health System, Severance established a rehabilitation hospital, a cardiovascular center, an Eye & ENT hospital, a children's hospital and a cancer hospital and has promoted cutting-edge healthcare fields.
In the 2000s, we created research infrastructure successfully expanding clinical research organization and setting up the Avison BioMedical Research Center (ABMRC), a world class research facility.
Severance has been designated as a Research-Driven Hospital by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in March 2013 and built 7 core research teams, ①Cancer, ②Cardio-Cerebrovascular, ③Cranial Nerve, ④Metabolic disease ⑤Immune/Infection, ⑥Stem cell, ⑦Medical Devices/IT.
In September 2014, Severance Hospital has been selected as an executing institute of a Research-Driven Hospital R&D Projects.
