The Brazilian Ministry of Health discussed on April 30th a proposal for the new regulatory framework of PDPs. In a meeting with the productive sector, the staff of the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Strategic Inputs showed the contributions received by Public Consultation No. 72/2018, which will provide a basis for a new ordinance.

The PDPs expand access to medicines and health products considered strategic for the Brazilian Unified Health System, through the strengthening of the country's industrial complex.

The main objective is to foster national development to reduce the costs of purchasing medicines and health products that are currently imported or that represent a high cost for SUS.

The economic model of PDPs works through partnerships between two or more public institutions or between public institutions and private companies, seeking to promote national public production. This model also provides for the development of new technologies.

In the initial phases of the partnership, there is the possibility of importing the product by the international part and during the process of technology transfer the internship of the knowledge of development of the product by the national companies is being replaced by the production in Brazilian territory.

The new regulatory framework may bring new business prospects with Brazilian companies that are able to participate in these partnerships.
