The Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has recently approved two preliminary proposals that may release the cultivation of Cannabis sativa in the country for medical and scientific purposes, as well as the production of national drugs based on the substance's derivatives.

Unlike in other countries where the product can be grown, such as Uruguay and Holland, here in Brazil the crop can be used for the development of oil-based remedies in some diseases. In Brazil there is already available medicine, RSHO which is the first product based on cannabis that is already legally imported into the country by HempMeds Brazil.

Despite the decision taken by ANVISA, the presidential team in Brasilia expressed dissatisfaction with this decision. Now it will be necessary to await the next steps of this journey towards the scientific and commercial exploitation of cannabis.
